The Willow Creek Daylighting Project: Explore, Learn, Join!

Friends of Willow Creek - Events

For generations, Willow Creek has flowed quietly beneath our feet, hidden beneath concrete and asphalt as it makes its way from the Marin Headland hills above Sausalito to Richardson Bay. Yet even underground, the creek continues to sustain life, connect habitats, and remind us of the natural systems that shape our community.

Today, we have an opportunity to bring Willow Creek back into the light.

The Willow Creek Daylighting Project will transform a buried waterway into a living creek corridor where native plants and wildlife can thrive, students can learn through hands-on experiences, and community members can connect with nature in the heart of Sausalito.

We invite you to explore this website, learn about the project, and discover ways to get involved. Whether you join a creek walk, volunteer at a restoration event, attend a community meeting, or support the project financially, your participation helps bring this vision to life.

Because this isn’t just our creek.
It’s your creek.

Together, we can restore habitat, improve water quality, create opportunities for outdoor education, and build a lasting community resource for future generations.

What Daylighting Willow Creek Will Create

  • A healthy, functioning creek ecosystem
  • Habitat for native plants, pollinators, fish, birds, and wildlife
  • A welcoming space for people to gather, learn, and explore
  • Outdoor classrooms for local students
  • Improved water quality and climate resilience
  • A stronger connection between our community and the natural world

Where a buried concrete channel exists today, a living creek will once again flow. The restoration of Willow Creek is about more than ecology. It is about reconnecting people with place and creating something future generations will be proud to inherit.
